The difference between weddings and funerals is plain.
One is a start,
the other an end,
both playing their part in a well-oiled chain.
At a wedding the women will weep, as they should
The men will laugh and drink
They'll all drink at the funeral,
and also they'll cry, but the men would stop if they could.
In a crowd at the wedding we'll find acceptable faces,
those who the couple will copy.
In black on the benches
the remnants of those who crawled from the dead's darkest places.
At the wedding two lovers display who they'd like to be,
in their choice of gown and buffet.
The dead cannot choose
and we're free to peruse their mistakes and bad company.
